Eaglemoss - London based publishing house

Eaglemoss is a London based publishing house that produces mainly partworks and collectibles with titles such as The Dog Collection, The Marvel Figurine Collection and Horrible Histories. The publications are series based and can be collected over a period of time. Many of the magazines carry cover mounted items.

The storage was a challenge due the nature of the product offering i.e:

  • The requirement to keep back copies of all partworks for an unlimited time in case a collector loses or damages an issue.
  • The mixture of very slow moving single back issues and bulk receipt and dispatch of current issues.
  • The requirement to track and re-collate cover mounted items separately.

The storage and distribution company only had a manual/paper based stock control system that was inefficient and labour intensive. The specific requirement was to:

  • Achieve better control of bulk stock and small order picks.
  • Produce management reports – especially on stock levels to allow better planning of print runs for new and existing publications

An Optimiser WMS six user solution incorporating mobile wireless barcode scanners was installed to manage the stock at all of the warehouses.

The Optimiser software imports orders from directly from COMAG.*.  These orders are then picked via a consolidated wave picking operations. The wave pick operation reduces the time spent going back and forth to the same location in the warehouse making the picking of the orders more efficient and with the use of a barcode scanner making the pick accurate.

Optima’s solution means that Eaglemoss and its storage and distribution contractor now have efficient stock management and effective on-demand reporting.

* COMAG is the UK's largest 3rd party magazine distributor
