10 Features to look for when choosing a WMS

28/11/17

If you’re in the process of choosing a WMS, then perhaps you already have some idea of what you need it to achieve, what functionality you need, and the limitations of your existing paper or PC based warehouse management system.

Alternatively, you might not to look for when choosing a WMS, and are trying to compare different suppliers and systems and not making much progress.

Whether you know exactly what you need, or you don’t, these are the type of things our customers typically want to know more about when it comes to choosing a WMS.

1. Ecommerce platform integration

Many of our customers sell online via their ecommerce websites, and want to keep stock levels up to date in the warehouse and on the website.

Optimser helps them do this, and even integrates with several ecommerce platforms, including:

This means that if a product is sold on Amazon, it updates eBay and the ecommerce website stock levels to avoid overselling.

If we don’t currently integrate with the ecommerce platform you use, we can do.

We’ve integrated a wide range of ecommerce platforms and can work with whatever you use, to make life easier for you and your customers.

2. Courier integration

If you’re selling products online then you’ll need to ship them out by courier.

Perhaps you’re still taking parcels to the post office, ringing up couriers asking them to come and collect, or find yourself frantically ringing round to see if there’s a courier that can get your large parcel to your remote customer in less than three days.

You’ll be pleased to know that Optimiser WMS software integrates with couriers, so that your parcels can all be sent via the same courier.

Currently we integrate with:

We also integrate with Courier Management Systems like:

This gives to give you a choice of couriers depending on factors such as parcel size, weight and destination.

Choosing a WMS that supports rules, so that parcels that meet certain criteria are automatically sent via the right courier.

3. Additional integration

As well as integrating with your ecommerce platform and your choice of courier(s), Optimiser WMS software can integrate with your other software too.

If you’re choosing a WMS then perhaps you want it to talk to your accounts or ERP software, so that you can get a snapshot of what’s going on in your business.

Perhaps you regularly want to know how much space there is in your warehouse before you place a big order, or need to know the value of all your stock.

Maybe you want your marketing department to be able to create special offer offers so that you can sell your left over stock, or promote other items, based on current stock levels.

4. Cloud based

Optimiser WMS software is a SaaS (Software as a Service) and cloud based.

This means that you don’t have to worry about hosting, maintaining and updating it. We do all of that for you.

When you’re choosing a WMS, you don’t want to have to think about things like:

  • Buying a dedicated server
  • Taking systems offline whilst you update them
  • Needing a dedicated IT department or local expert on site to run  or restore backups

We were the first company to introduce a cloud based WMS software way back in 2005, so you can rely on Optimiser to help you run your business, wherever you are.

5. Barcode scanning

Using barcode scanners with Optimiser WMS software will help dramatically improve picking speed and accuracy.

This means that orders take less time to process, so you can send more out, and customers get their products sooner.

Who wouldn’t want 100% picking accuracy?

6. Scalable

Optimiser WMS software is scalable so that if your business grows and you need more licences or functionality, then Optimiser grows with you.

What works well for a small business might not be suitable in a few years if you’re suddenly sending out thousands of orders a day.

7. Modular

Unlike some other WMS software, Optimiser WMS is modular, which gives you the functionality you need when you need it.

This means you’re not paying for features you never use.

8. Speedy implementation

Depending on your requirements, your new Optimiser WMS software could be up and running in just a few weeks.

Whilst most projects do take a little longer, we work hard to ensure that your new warehouse management system meets your current and future needs, and is tested, installed and working properly as quickly as possible.

9. Bespoke customisation

As we mentioned before, we can integrate with a wide range of systems, and get your WMS software to do whatever you need it to do.

From the big things, to the little things that just make your life easier like getting the reports you need quickly and easily, or importing and exporting data, we’re able to make sure that your Optimser WMS software is right for you.

We don’t expect you to compromise, and your WMS software will be as unique as your company is.

10. Works for your business

Your Optimiser WMS software needs to work for your business.

We want to know what the pain points are, and where the bottlenecks are, and what we can do to resolve them.

That’s why we speak to as many people in your business as possible. We know that warehouse staff might be doing things a certain way because of processes and procedures elsewhere in the business.

By learning more about your business, we can help you make your business more efficient, more effective and more profitable.
